Argentin@s, màs o menos
Based on a collection of ancestral stories of the people of La Paternal, stories of migration, of becoming Argentinian, of European wars and aboriginals, “Argentin@ mas o menos” opposes these and other statements, reflecting on the topics of immigration and identity.
The video constructs a conversation, showing the various opinions about different sorts of immigrants, what it means to be Argentinian or not and the strange relationship of the individual to these narrations. It is a vague, subjective line that divides “story” from “history”.
On the other hand, the animations and drawings express thoughts inspired by Benedict Andersons book “Imagined Communities”, where he proposes the definition of a nation as an imagined political community. If we, at least partly, identify with the stories of our ancestors and our origin, then we all also identify with the common ground of all humans: migration.
